Tastings of the garage.October 2014
Recently we have the opportunity to taste some of the most interesting winesfrom the NorthWest Spain. Those wines coming from small wineries, produced by innovative wine makers, almost outlawyers. So here we are! Ready to go and taste these wines.
Three of them come from the same winery, Algueira, Ribeira Sacra, (Galicia, Northwest Spain), where Fernando Gonzalez has managed to combine tradition and modernity to do an amazing job both in quality, as when recovering indigenous grape varieties. Any of his wine is synonymous with quality.

Brandan Algueira 2013
This is a white wine made of Godello grape, produced in a single-vineyard terrace (Carballocovo) that lies on the river bank of Sil, and it has been restored by the owner Fernando González. Yellow-green in color, the nose gives white fruit (green apple, white peach) with light herbal and floral nuances touch. Intense and mineral on the palate with fresh acidity, very well balanced and structured. It was paired with olives and canned sardines. Delicious at any time.

Algueira Cortezada 2013
A plurievarietal white wine as result of mixing three kind of grapes: Godello grape, which gives fruit and structure, Alvariño grape, that brings acidity and perfume and Treixadura grape, freshness and elegance. A mixture resulting a wine fresh, easy, and elegant to drink, and at the same time, very balanced. To be sipped again and again. Ideal to pair with fish, soft cheeses, jams. Excellent price for quality.

Algueira Mencía 2012
A young red Mencia, not aged in oak, very fruity and mineral. Wine aromas are transmitting Atlantic forest, the forest from Galicia, balsamic (pine and laurel), red fruits. Palate that gives certain hot spices with notes of raspberry. Aromatic, tasty and silky. Invite to drink again and again.  This wine must be a reference among Mencías and wines in general. For lovers of the fruit in the wine. Refrain from those looking wood or roasted taste in wine. Excellent price for quality too.

Leiros 2007
A red Mencía wine from  2007, another wine maker characterized by his ability to innovate, Miguel Angel Amigo produces a wine full of complexity, despite its time in oak, is pretty much alive, giving more fruit than wood. A wine whose acidity has allowed the fruit is still present, and allows seamless integration between these three elements: wood, red fruit and acidity. A wine with a strong aftertaste, tasty, and  very persistent. A wine to be drunk slowly, and for the long haul. Gorgeus wine.
It was paired with different canapés. To finish the tasting of wines and food a delicious mixture of yogurt cream and candied fruit.
