Wines made to surprise 2016-2017

Merry  Christmas and a Happy New Year! Here we have  some recommendations that unite quality with good price, unconventional wines of short production, what they are looking for is to convey the characteristics of the land where they have been produced. Wines with names and surnames of winemakers committed to the environment. They make their origin their mark of identity. Wines made to surprise.

Ribera del Duero, Spain

Producer: Germán R. Blanco. Quinta Milú.
Vintage 2014
Variety: Tinta Fina. (Red Wine)
Vinification: Aged a minimum of 6 months in old French or American oak casks.                                       Serving Temperature: 14º-16º C.                                                                                                                            Alcohol: 13 º C.

A very atypical Ribera del Duero, a wine made in the traditional way. Visually it is of a very intense purple color, which denotes its youth. In the nose it is a very aromatic wine, that gives us aromas to black fruits of the forest, candied plum. In the mouth it is a live wine, slightly astringent, with a marked retronasal acidity, with mineral and fruity notes. A fresh wine that does not give wood or vanilla, very different from what is usually done in the Ribera del Duero. 9-10 $.

Rioja, Spain

Producer: David Sampedro, Bhilar Plots
Vintage 2014
Variety: 85% tempranillo, 10% garnacha y 5% viura. (Red wine)
Vinification:  18 months of aging, 9 months in tub and the rest of the time in French oak barrels.                Serving Temperature: 14º-15º C.
Alcohol: 13,5 º C.

This wine is surprising for its freshness despite the time in the barrel. Rich and deep in nose with aromas of red fruits, hedgerow fruit,  and morello cherries. Aromatic spice memories like clove. Already in the mouth it shows mineral at the same time as fruity, with a very present acidity and tannins very tamed. This is a silky, structured wine with a clean and persistent finish. Very round and balanced. 10-12 $.

maría abril

D.O. Bierzo, Spain

Producer: Bodega Luz Divina Amigo.
Vintage 2014
Variety: Godello. (White wine)
Vinification: Must obtained directly from the pressing of skins. Fermented in its own lees for four months.     Serving Temperature: 8º-10º C.                                                                                                                          Alcohol 13 º C.

Young  wine white straw-colored yellow with golden ribbons. It has a very aromatic nose, frank and prolonged. Aromas to white fruit, melon, apricot, herbs, and even mineral touches. In the mouth it is persistent and very fruity. Saline and mineral notes are combined thanks to its production directly from the skins pressed. The result is a very lively white wine with a marked acidity, which makes it ideal to mix with a large number of dishes, from white meats, salads or fish in the oven. 8-9 $.

andré clouet

Champagne, Grand Cru, Bouzy France

Producer: Pierre y François Santz-Clouet.                          Grande Reserve Brut,
Variety: 100% Pinot Noir.
Vinification: Manual harvesting. Artisan elaboration, the rearing takes place in the cavas of the family to 10 meters of depth, the Champagne method is also manual.
Alcohol: 12 º C.
This is a very fresh and lively champagne. With a very fine and elegant bubble, and a well integrated acidity. Presents citrus notes, and aromas of white fruit. The palate is elegant, unctuous, persistent. Floral and mineral notes are added to the fruit, while the butter is perceived. A very handmade champagne that matches any dish. From cheeses, ham, seafood, meats ... Perfect for any occasion.  28-30 €.
