A Wine Tour to Riveira Sacra, where Rome produced its Wines.
The Ribeira Sacra term meaning "sacred shore", and seems to derive from Latin. And at the edge of the two most iconic rivers Galicia, the river Miño and Sil, this region is located between the provinces of Lugo and Ourense. The situation of their terraced vineyards, located on the banks of both rivers, and with slopes of up to 80 % makes this land a paradise. Reduced production , even today you can see how they do new decks to add more soil , and thus cultivate some of the native grape varieties from the region.
Not since about 2000 years of history to travel back in time and get an idea of how the Romans cultivated the land to produce wine, especially in the subfield of "Amandi”.
Besides its wines, Ribeira Sacra is well known for its spectacular scenery, also houses one of the largest concentrations of Romanesque art in the world, reflected in more than 18 monasteries of a medieval origin, as well as many other churches. Also, the proximity of locations where you can enjoy hot springs, gastronomy, and the presence of villages and towns of renowned beauty, it makes the place an unavoidable place for the traveller who loves culture in general.
The proposal is intended for small groups from 4-7 people. It is focused on lovers of wine tourism, gastronomy and culture. Wineries are carefully chosen, and produce some of the best wines from Ribeira Sacra. Restaurants also offer proven quality products, always based on the local cuisine. The tour unfolds over three days, two nights at the Parador de San Estevo in Ourense, in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra. This four star hotel is an old medieval monastery (S. XII-XIII) where Romanesque and Baroque styles mainly mixed. It has three cloisters, one Roman, one Gothic and other Renaissance. The building is a Historic Artistic Monument since 1923. Plus three prestigious wineries, visits to monasteries, villages, nature and a catamaran ride is included in the route. All costs are included. The departures are located from Santiago de Compostela. The first day at 9 am customers are picked up at the agreed place (hotel, airport, etc.) accompanied by driver-tour guide in English, Sapanish and Galician. At 12 is due to arrive at the hotel, have lunch at a charming restaurant nearby , and in the afternoon we will visit one of the most representative wineries , wine included, in spectacular scenery on the river Miño . Back to the hotel where you can enjoy dinner and free time. The second day begins with a visit to an idyllic monastery, to continue with a visit to two emblematic wineries, one of them equipped with restaurant where we will have lunch, and reserves the afternoon for a catamaran ride and a short walk which leads us to one of the most spectacular viewpoints over the vineyards of Ribeira Sacra views. Once back at the hotel, enjoying again free time and dinner. The third day starts around 10 am, with enough time to rest and to be ready to spend the rest of the morning and afternoon in the city of Ourense, maybe enjoy a spa time, or stroll through the medieval town.
