Tasting of Montecastro Winery

Tasting of Montecastro winery

Three wines make the selection that took place at the cellar wine bar Tierra Nuestra, Huelva. The Montecastro winery is based in Castrillo de Duero, Valladolid, Spains. Their wines belonging to the region Ribera del Duero.
Alconte Crianza 2011 is the first wine to be tasted.

Alconte is a varietal 100% Tinta Fina (Tempranillo grape), known for its freshness, fruitiness, and a very integrated acidity that differentiate it from the typical wines of Ribera del Duero. The wood is kept in the background despite his 14 months of aging in French and American oak. It is a powerful wine with high alcohol (15%), but nothing astringent. It is a long drink wine that invites you to drink, quite a pleasant surprise in a region where the wood aromas are quite normal. Excellent quality price (about 15 € / 20 $ a bottle).

Montecastro 2008 and 2009. In a sweet moment to be drunk is the Montecastro 2008, which is more rounded and balanced. However these two wines should wait for the rightr moment to be tasted. They were made to be kept some years in the cellar. They are classical examples who will not disappoint fans of the wines of the Ribera del Duero. (Good-value 21 € / 27 $).
