Prada, as usual in his best mood

Palacio de Canedo
It is at the Palace of Canedo where we find both the winery and vineyard acreage devoted to Prada with care to produce their wines.
This manor house is one of the best examples of palatial architecture Bierzo S. XVIII. Completely rebuilt by its current owner, Jose Luis Prada and his wife, Flor, both have managed to make the most of the building, making it a magical place, a resort with restaurant, rooms, shop, and of course, winery.

Wine sleeps, please talk in a low voice

Where once there was only forest, now there are also vineyards, all under strict respect for the environment, because to Jose Luis, you have to live nature, ecology is a way of life. There are approximately 32 hectares of vineyards that surround the palace and are confused between forests. They have been planted in succession from 1995 to the present with native varieties such as Mencia for red and rosé, and Godello for whites (reserving two hectares for the cultivation of Chardonnay). José Manuel is the winemaker responsible for giving life to these wines under the umbrella of Prada, which encompasses several brands, ranging from the famed Carbonic red wine, to sparkling Xamprada. They are marketed with the label of organic wines. To these are added a number of products derived from grapes such as its famous Lemonade based Mencia, his vermouth “Biermú” (white and rosé) and their spirits.

Its wines have a marked varietal character, like wine without aging Palacio de Canedo Maceracion, carbonic wine, fresh and fruity maceration that perfectly conveys the spirit of Mencia. We also found some wine with aging, such as Palacio de Canedo Roble, with 10 months of American oak that gives a hint of vanilla to the Mencia. The Picantal, offers 12 months of aging in French oak barrels on its lees, with a little more complex mineral notes with hints of licorice and red fruit, they are the Palacio de Canedo Crianza and Reserva Palacio de Canedo, the latter three years bottled after 13 months in oak.

We also find versions in white, with a 100% Godello wine, marked citrus tones, and Rosé based Mencia and Godello grapes.
Not to miss its range of sparkling wines, named Xamprada, both white, as in rosé, ranging from SemiSec to Extrabrut; specially recommended for Brut lovers is the rosé sparkling wine, a blend of Godello and Mencia grapes, fruit and freshness in equal parts, a pleasure for the senses.
